They would box me up and tell me to change
But you hold me close and softly say
That you wouldn't have me any other way"
Many people sometimes look at the word YOLO(You Only Live Once) as something negative, or refer it to ideas that might degrade someone and there standards. It was not until I met one of the coolest people in the world, my best friend Josh, who helped me to gain a new understanding.
He brought this idea up to me while we were staying in California and we were discussing how sometimes we are afraid to try things just because they are new, different or weird. That is when he told me a story of a friend who often would tell him YOLO, reminding him that not all chances come twice. We then discussed the idea from the film We Bough a Zoo, how with 20 seconds of insane courage you truly can do anything because it is just those first twenty seconds then after that it just happens.
I love this idea, because that is one of the reasons why we have this life and that is to experience it. We should strive to step out of our comfort zone and show people who we are and not be afraid to share our talents and heaven forbid we develop some. Sometimes we are afraid to love, laugh and sometimes live because of what others might think. We do not need to really worry about that, if you are not lowering your standards to do something then go for it.
I soon after was talking to my dear friend Kacy, about a motivational speaker who I had heard recently and he talked about our signature moves. He defined a signature move as something that we do that makes us who we are. Sure others can try to imitate it but there is something about Elvis Presley that makes him Elvis and there is something that makes Michael Jackson him. So then we started to evaluate in our minds what our signature was and what others where.
I am still looking for my signature and I really am not quite sure what it is, but I know I have one. My friend Josh often tells me that I am weird. So maybe that is it, but like I said I am still searching. I do know that this life was meant to be lived though, especially without fear. If we show fear to do with our lives what God intends us to do, then we are only showing our lack of faith. So now I ask you. What is your signature and what are you going to do with it?
